The Debate 2009 talked about how a judge ruled against having a moment of silence in the school system. To me this is pushing kids further away from religion and respect for it. For the kids who do practice and believe in religion they do not get a chance to practice it at school. I felt this debate was bias because it did not want to show strengths and weaknesses because they felt that their is no weakness to Darwin's theory of evolution.
The Library of Congress Artifact states that Jehovah's Witness refused to salute the American Flag. Both of these reading are based on individuals beliefs. Whether it is saluting the flag or having a moment of silence they both or showing honor towards someone or something and is one's own choice. Reading both of these articles showed me how similar these two situations where when I never looked at them being categorized the same.

Interesting thoughts! I think the basis for all of the debate is the fact that we try to ensure freedom on all counts - religious, political beliefs, personal beliefs, etc. Sometimes this freedom for all actually prevents freedom in cases of education.
