Teacher's Cost of Living Matters More.
I chose this topic because I found some very interesting data that I was unaware of. I knew that teachers pay has increased over the past and that there has been several complaints about teacher's salary. Here in Tennessee a few years ago Metro received a huge pay increase for their teachers and the increase seemed to put us more on an average pay scale nationally.

It's amazing to me that teacher's do not receive extra pay for being a fantastic teacher, based on their performance or the impact that they have on their kids. All of these should place a value on teacher's salaries or some incentive for them. As we have learned throughout this class that standardized testing is placed with great emphasis in the school system today and the teacher's who student's pass their testing still receive the same pay as those who student's fail or receive below average scores on the test. It just doesn't appear that their are any compensation for being an above and beyond teacher except knowing in their heart that they are progressing with their student's. It is hard being a teacher in today's society because there are so many behavioral and other things to deal with appose to just teaching. I would like to think that pay doesn't effect a teacher's effort but I feel that it does. Teaching is like anything else, if you invest in them you will see a better end result in your student's education.

In the reading Multiculturalism in School Curriculum is so on target to me. We do not have to stir away from the curriculum in order to teach multiculturalism in school. We often think if we implement something new or change the way somethings has been done in the past that we change the core/foundations. I view multiculturalism as building upon our foundation instead of tearing it down if it is implemented properly.
At first, while reading"Toward a Centrist Curriculum" I was thinking that they should use group as a learning tool for multiculturalism. As I read further I realize when we connect, network and have conferences with other people that the only thing we are doing is basically having group. The whole object of group is to obtain knowledge of new things and get ideas from others. When everyone puts their experiences, thoughts, knowledge and ideas together we create a new way of doing things. I really never looked at conferences and networking as having a big group until now.
Ads are another way of expressing multiculturalism. Ads are simply a way to express peoples point of views. These point of views can cause set backs in our culture today, can be bias and can have negative affects in our learning system. On the other hand ads can be a positive influence on multiculturalism. It/they can lead to positive discussions (group discussion) in our classrooms.
Multiculturalism can be so difficult because no one wants to let go of the past. Everyone feels that the way they learned is the best way because we all feel that we turned out successful and great so why change things. In my view our community and culture is changing and so should multiculturalism in education. I always use group as a skill and communication building technique but now I will also use/view it as a multiculturalism technique as well.

Booker T. Washington is who I chose. It could be because I am African American and I can relate or understand better where he was coming from. He set the way for African Americans to work their way up the social ladder and to improve their social economic status. Mr. Washington wanted to teach hard work, persistence and self-discipline. As we compare African Americans today to the past so many of us have come along way. We have enhanced our education and goals so much until we actually can compete in today's society with confidence.

The Real Makers purpose was to make good people, citizens and for each student to find his/her own talent and to utilize it. Frederick Taylor who inspired Social Efficiency which plays a major role in our school system today. Socializing is pushed on a daily basis in school for students to learn the appropriate way to socialize among their peers. Socializing alos connects with the business aspect of school. Students need to learn the different levels of socializing professional/casual. Education/schooling has a business aspect to it as well as everything else. Schooling has become a learning place where you learn to meet the business needs.

All of the readings to me were anti-something that can be bias or discriminatory in some form or fashion (race or religion). What I found that was interesting was all readings reflected back to some other source of information or reading/book. All readings show or express people's opinion and their view of the world and what they think is justice or injustice. All readings express some form of racism in the manner that if you believe in one thing you are viewed as one way and if you believe in something else you are viewed in a different way as well.

The reading expresses the different types of cultures and views and this was very interesting to me just reading how different the views are and the challenges that people have overcome and still yet to come.

The Debate 2009 talked about how a judge ruled against having a moment of silence in the school system. To me this is pushing kids further away from religion and respect for it. For the kids who do practice and believe in religion they do not get a chance to practice it at school. I felt this debate was bias because it did not want to show strengths and weaknesses because they felt that their is no weakness to Darwin's theory of evolution.

The Library of Congress Artifact states that Jehovah's Witness refused to salute the American Flag. Both of these reading are based on individuals beliefs. Whether it is saluting the flag or having a moment of silence they both or showing honor towards someone or something and is one's own choice. Reading both of these articles showed me how similar these two situations where when I never looked at them being categorized the same.
